Meet The Principal

0
I am so excited to be the new principal of Irving School, home of the Wildcats! My name is Aimee Misset.  Let me tell you a little bit about myself! I have been an educator for 14 years, as a classroom teacher, reading teacher and administrator.  I am also a wife and mother to two wonderful children, Will, age 13 and Abby, age 10.  I also have two big dogs that think they are children!

While I bring my own experiences and beliefs, I want to assure you that they align with the core values of Derby Public Schools and Irving School in particular.  We will continue to work on the existing school-wide goals as we move into the 2018-2019 school year.

  • To build a positive school culture rooted in RespectRespect for Ourselves, Respect for Each Other, and Respect for Our School
  • To create a rigorous learning community that is driven by high-quality teaching. Simply put, we will have a sense of urgency and a "Whatever it Takes" approach to help our students reach their full potential
  • To cultivate a school-wide culture of reading to get children excited about books, instill a love a literature, and to develop confident readers at all levels
  • To support and celebrate regular school attendance, and ensure being "On Time and Ready to Shine!" is a lifelong habit
  • To promote an environment and culture of health and wellness to support our physical, mental well-being, and development
  • To welcome and engage families and the community in the life of Irving School

In addition, I bring with me the passionate belief that it is our job to help students develop the mindset they need to achieve academic and personal excellence. This includes skills and traits such as perseverance, empathy, responsibility and self-reflection.

I also believe that the strength and quality of a relationship directly impacts the quality of learning.  It will always be my goal to strengthen student-to-staff, student-to-student, school-to-home, and school-to-community relationships to improve learning for ALL.

You will see these beliefs and values in all we do at Irving.  Together we can motivate and inspire all school community members to be their best and make every moment count!

Families work together, share news and celebrate.  I look forward to doing that with all of you now that I am a member of the Irving family.  I will make updates to the website and Twitter account often, so please keep an eye out.  I look forward to getting to know each and every one of our community members as we begin this new school year.   In the meantime, have a safe and happy summer!
